My First Pattern - Jarrod's Gloves

JARROD’S GLOVES

As this is my first, let me know if you find mistakes. Enjoy!

Size: man’s medium
Yarn: worsted weight yarn, I used Loops & Threads Impeccable, about ½ skein, so roughly 120-140 yards
Needles: 4 size 6 double pointed
Gauge: 18sts and 26rows = 4” in stockinette sts on size 6 needles

Abbreviations: k – knit, p – purl, st – stitch, sts – stitches, rnd – round, pm – place marker, cont – continue, inc – increase(s), dec – decrease(s), CO – cast on, BO – bind off, sm – slide marker from L needle to R needle, btw – between, ndls – needles, pat – pattern, sl – slip, psso – pass slip st over

Begin at cuff, CO 32 sts, dividing btw 3 ndls, join in the rnd, pm at beginning of rnd.
1st row: k2, p2 ribbing, continue around. K in ribbing until piece measures 3.5” from start or desired length for cuff.
Knit 1 rnd.

R hand glove: beg pat as per diagram across first 13sts of rnd, K rest of sts.
Rnd 1: cont pat across first 13 sts, k1, pm, m1, k1, m1, pm, k to end of rnd. 2 inc made for thumb gusset.
Rnd 2: cont pat across first 13 sts, k rest of rnd.
Rnd 3: cont pat across first 13 sts, k1, sm, m1, k3, m1, sm
Cont in this manner, inc as in Rnd 3 after 1st marker and before 2nd marker on rnds 6, 8, & 10. You should end with 11 sts btw markers.
Next rnd: cont pat across first 13 sts, k rest of rnd.

Knit first 13 sts as per pat, k1, place 11 sts btw marker on scrap of yarn to be worked later and CO 5 sts to R needle, place markers on either side of the 5 sts.
Rnd 1: cont pat across first 13 sts, k rest of rnd.
Rnd 2: cont pat across first 13 sts, k1, sm, k2tog, k1, ssk, sm, k to end of rnd
Rnd 3: cont pat across first 13 sts, k to end of rnd
Rnd 4: cont pat across first 13 sts, k1, remove marker, sl 1, k2tog, psso
K pat across first 13 sts, k to end of rnd. Cont in this manner until pat is completed.

At this point you should be close to the base of the pinky finger. K as many rnds as need to reach the base of the pinky (should be about 1 or 2)

Place first 3 sts of rnd and last 3 sts of rnd on scrap of yarn; these will be used later for the pinky.
K 1 or 2 rnds to reach the base of the other three fingers, casting on 3 sts beside sts for pinky using the back loop method.  Place all 29 sts on scrap of yarn.

Pinky Finger: Place 6 pinky sts back on ndls, pick up 3 sts from underside of back loop cast on sts, may pick up an additional st on either side of these 3 sts if needed. Divide sts evenly among 3ndls. Attach yarn at outer side of pinky sts and K these 9 or 11 sts in rnd.
About 1/3” from desired length of finger, k2tog at end of each ndl, dec 3 sts each rnd. If the st count cannot be evenly divided by three, dec 1-2 sts the first rnd, to make an even number of sts on ndls. When only 6 sts are left, cut yarn, thread tail through the sts and pull them together.

Ring finger: Of the 29 sts on scrap of yarn, place the 3 back loop cast on sts, 3 sts from in front of these and 3 from in back on 3 ndls. Attach yarn at pinky side, K3 sts, CO 3 sts using back loop method, divide sts evening on 3 ndls. K these 12 sts in the rnd and finish as for pinky.

Middle Finger: Place 5 sts from front and 5 sts from back on ndls, pick up 3 sts from underside of back loop cast on sts. Attach yarn at ring finger side, K5 sts, CO 3 sts using back loop method. K these 16 sts in rnd and finish as for pinky.

Index Finger: place remaining 10 sts on ndls, pick up 3 sts from underside of back lop cast on sts. Divide sts evenly. Attach yarn at middle finger side. K these 13 sts in rnd and finish as for pinky.

Thumb: Place 11 sts from scrap of yarn on ndls, reattach yarn and pick up 5 sts from underside of back loop cast on sts. You will have 16 sts on ndls. Begin knitting in rnd. In 2nd rnd, when the 5 picked up sts are reached, k2tog, k1, ssk, 14 sts remaining. Cont K in rnd and finish as for pinky.

Pull all ends to inside and weave in. May use these ends to close any small holes that may be present at base of fingers. Block if desired.

L hand glove is done in the same manner, except that the thumb gusset is formed at the end of the rnd right before 13 pat sts rather than right after, keeping the 1 K sts btw thumb gusset and 13 pat sts. Fingers are worked the same as for R hand only start by placing the middle six sts on a scrap of yarn for the pinky instead of the first 3 and last 3 sts of the rnd.
